What is Methylprednisolone Acetate? 

CDC officials have warned that patients who received a steroid injection of Methylprednisolone Acetate from June - September 2012, are at a high risk to fall ill from Fungal Meningitis. 

CDC has estimated that approximately 14,000 people may have received contanimated injections.  They have warned patients to be aware of the following signs and symptoms of Fungal Meningitis:

  • Fever;
  • Headache;
  • Stiff Neck;
  • Nausea and Vomiting;
  • Sensitivity to Light; and
  • Altered Mental Status. 


Ill patients may show only one to two signs and the fungus can take several months to grow.  (www.cdc.gov)
